Gold! My PC Invoice from 1994
Just found this in a drawer. Amazing. From nearly 20 years ago. I paid $5190 for a desktop PC. Some highlights:
- 486 chip running at 66 MHz (new PC has effectively 4 CPUs running at 3500 MHz each. Maybe 8, it’s quad core with 2 threads per core AFAIK. Not my area!)
- Soundcard and CD Player kit ($870) cost about same as my new PC (system unit)
- Graphics card was nearly $600
- 15” CRT display was $870. (Hello New PC again)
- 340 MB hard drive was $475 (MB, not GB…what?…that is, AFAIK, $1.39 MILLION per TB. MSY have a good 2 TB drive for $93 today) update: maths after image.
Here it is, with the original Amex slip still attached:
Maths on that disk price
1994 was $1.39 per MB
So x1000 is $1,390 per GB
and x1000 again for TB, thus $1,390,000
