The Amazing Changes in Memory Card Prices over a Decade

…which shows the 1,000 times increase in microSD card capacity in 9 years, set me off and running about my own storage costs over that time.

2004 CF 100 $200 $2.00 For my Nikon D70 camera. They proudly said it was the first DSLR under $2000. Which, at $1999 was true. Except you couldn’t actually use it as they didn’t give you a CF card.
2014 SD (HC) 32,000 $28 $0.00088 32 GB Sandisk Ultra Class 10 (MSY 11 Dec 2014)  That’s 0.088 of 1 cent.

Hard Disk Drives are/were cheaper per MB than these little cards. If I look back another 10 years to 1994, my 340 MB  (!) disk drive [2]  cost me $475.   So that’s $1.40 per MB. Cheaper than the CF card which was 10 years later.
