Shoreham to Flinders: The most recent hike done

Apr 23, 2020

So, I was going to say “The Last Hike I Did” and add Before The Virus, but that sounds wrong. And even negative. Which is just not me.

Anyway, this was Tues March 10th this year. I ‘knew’ we could walk from Shoreham to Flinders, based on research, plus that we didn’t have to worry about tides…but it’s always good to get the boots on the ground and confirm. Update : I think I was concerned about tides, hence the late start.

It’s actually part of my question: can we walk from Balnarring## to Cairns Bay and even on to Bushrangers Bay?

This very pleasant beach-side walk was just over 7km. Because we started late (4:20pm) we did it as a car-shuffle, with one at Shoreham Beach and the other on the cliff-top carpark above Dog Beach at Flinders.

We kept on walking past the turn off to the car so we could say we got to the Pier.

(I want to start putting photos here on the blog, but not sure the best way. At the moment, I’ll just upload them but will hopefully move to an external site and just have them embedded here, so they’re available in higher quality and larger size.)

The phone is getting on (3+ years), but Google recently updated the standard Camera App, to shoot in the much more flexible Camera Raw format . I can import them into Lightroom and do the magic there. Can’t really do that with .jpg files.

Shoreham beach: the start
Flinders Pier. The end: 6pm. So, nice shadows
Artry F*rty shot from under the pier. I do like my symmetry. And vanishing points.

##Peninsula Tips

If you head down to the Mornington Peninsula, do try and visit it’s quaint east-west bookends of Balnarring and Rosebud. Both of these sleepy twin-towns have featured in the background of stories on Channel 9’s Postcards. They can easily be incorporated as quick little side-visits as part of a day trip to Hastings.
